Sushi

It’s rolled sushi with seaweed on the outside and rice and fillings on the inside. Maki sushi can be filled with raw fish, cooked fish, or other vegetables and sauces. There is also an “inside out” variation on maki called uramaki; it has the rice on the outside of the roll rather than the seaweed.

Takoyaki is one of Osaka’s quintessential street foods. Thankfully for us , you don’t have to travel to Osaka to try them – they’re basically found everywhere in Japan and are quite popular in North America too. If you ever come across a takoyaki stand, stay awhile and check out the takoyaki makers. They’re mesmerizing.

Ramen Soup

It is common for Japanese moms to make ramen at home. Making good ramen soup from scratch requires a lot of time and effort, so most households use packaged ramen which includes 2-3 servings of fresh noodles and a concentrated soup base.

As a nation obsessed with grilled food, the Japanese take delight in grilling indoors by making Teppanyaki (鉄板焼き) at home. It’s our Sunday grill, a pastime we enjoy over the weekend and year-round.
